Still Brooding

Yes, a day later I'm still brooding over the total abuse I received yesterday on a bus. As a young, non-WhiteTrash, working professional, I don't think I'm better than anybody else. I just wish other people thought the same way. How fuckin' rude!!

1 California To Howard & Main

Given the outrageous cost of our apartment here in the city, I elect to not own a car (NO PARKING) and take San Francisco public transit. Having said this, you should know that I prefer to walk whenever possible. One co-worker said, "I am a much happier person now that I don't take the bus to work." My husband echoed this idea just a few days ago by saying, "I'd rather walk. On the bus I am half-dead."

No one wants to take public transit in San Fran. Sometimes it's not that bad though. For example, when I leave my apartment between 7:20 and 7:35am. The MUNI (bus) is not at all bad at this hour. The emissions-free bus on route 1 California is full of quiet, iPod-listening, business suit-wearing folks. We quietly and peacefully ride down the hills to the Financial District without interruption. Ride the 1 any other time of day, forget it. There are people screaming, pushing, yelling in Chinese, and falling over.

Learn from my mistake. I boarded a bus mid-afternoon for an interview. A fat woman was sitting in the front of the bus. The bus was crowded when I got so I had to stand. I held on to the only open pole (no easy task on such a fast moving bus going down a hill!). This nasty woman STEPS ON MY FOOT. I ignored it, although I shot her a confused look. She asked me, "Are you getting off?" Stupid question- I just got on. Then she told me to move! I just rolled my eyes at her and she called me WHITE TRASH. Hahaha, me, in a business suit, collared shirt, and hoes. Her in a dirty white T-shirt and sneakers, and fat. She may have been insane because she kept talking to no one about nothing- a pretty typical happening here in San Francisco. Moral of the story: Take the bus early in the morning with the silent professionals.

Transbay Blog has brought this to our attention:

Now annoyed middle- and upper-class MUNI-riders can wear their feelings on their chest: MUNI is a mess! The T-shirt designer, Mule Design, will hopefully make a handsome profit (hopefully the proceeds are going to improve the MUNI system for all its riders?????).
